What to Expect During the Crown Process

Getting a crown typically takes two visits. At the first appointment, the tooth is prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to create space for the crown. An impression is taken and sent to a dental laboratory where the permanent crown is custom fabricated. A temporary crown is placed while you wait. At the second appointment, the permanent crown is fitted, adjusted, and cemented into place.

How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?

With proper care, dental crowns can last 10 to 15 years or longer. Regular checkups, good oral hygiene, and avoiding habits like chewing ice or grinding your teeth help extend the life of your crown.
